Egypt has made great progress in eradicating illiteracy and educating adults within the framework of a strategic plan that works until 2030, Education Minister Moheb el Raafi said on Thursday.
This came during Raafi's speech at UNESCO meeting in Paris under the
rubric "Eradicating Illiteracy and sustainable societies" in the occasion of eradicating International Literacy Day.
He added that the Supreme Council of Universities is currently studying to oblige every university student to educate four illiterates before graduation.
He pointed out that the country has helped in eradicating illiteracy of 800,000 persons last year.
He also underlined the cabinet's recent decision to oblige 30,000 teachers who were appointed to eradicate illiteracy of 10 students within a year.
During his speech, the minister also reviewed Egypt's achievements in eradicating political, economic, social, health and environmental illiteracy.
And in exclusive statements of MENA on the sidelines of the meeting, the minister shed light on President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's approval to a plan that aims to develop education during the period from 2014 until 2030.
