Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Nguyen Phu Trong on his election as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The congratulation telegram was published on the Kremlin’s website on Tuesday.
"The results of the voting in the National Assembly show the high authority you earned on high party and state positions, as well as the recognition of your merits in addressing tasks of socio-economic development and the strengthening of Vietnam’s foreign political positions," the Russian president said.
Putin noted the constructive negotiations with the politician in Sochi in September and expressed confidence that the countries will further consolidate their relations and strategic partnership.
On Tuesday, Vietnam’s national assembly elected General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong as the country’s president.
