Dubai, the city of gold, has achieved another feather in its crown, setting a new Guinness World Record and made the world's longest 22-carat hand-made gold chain measuring a total of 5.522 kilometres.
As part of the 20th anniversary of the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) in collaboration with Dubai Festival and Retail Establishment (DFRE) achieved the milestone to manufacture the "Dubai Celebration Chain”.
The "Dubai Celebration Chain” has more than 4 million links is made of 22 ct gold, and the total weight is 256 kg.
In a ceremony held at outside the Dubai Gold Souk in Deira, Laila Mohammad Suhail, CEO of the Dubai Festival and Retail Establishment, Tawhid Abdullah, Chairman of DGJG, members of the jewellery group, prominent government officials and a large number of locals and visitors were part of the official unveiling of the chain on Monday.
Representative of the Guinness World Record, Sami in the presence of Laila Mohammad Suhail, CEO of the Dubai Festival and Retail Establishment, Tawhid Abdullah, Chairman of DGJG and a large number of government officials announced the official record.
After the official announcement to set a new world record, the Dubai Festival and Retail Establishment pointed as part of the 20th anniversary of DSF, the chain will be on display for a couple of days in highly secure premises under the supervision of Dubai Police for the general public.

This Guinness World Record also bears testimony to the strong relationship we share with the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group – as a result of which thousands of DSF visitors are able to avail themselves of the opportunity to win fantastic gold and diamond prizes. The promotions organised by Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group and this exciting "Dubai Celebration Chain” event constitute an integral part of DSF's "Journey of Celebrations” and reflect the pivotal role played by Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group in developing and sustaining this longstanding partnership”.
Chandu Siroya, Vice Chairman of Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group, said: "The Dubai Celebration Chain was the result of the hard work of over 100 crafters who worked daily for 10 to 16 hours and made the chain. Even though there were some difficulties, we did it.”
As part of DSF's promotions, one lucky winner every day will win 1kg of gold as well as many other enticing promotions. The chain will be on display for a couple of days and later, customers will have the opportunity of having part of it as a bracelet or as a chain ranging from 7-8g for bracelets and up to 26g for chains as a special kiosk already started booking orders from resident and tourist buyers.
