Bouguermouh pioneered a new artistic style Algiers - Hocine Bousalah Renowned Algerian filmmaker, Abdul Rahman Bouguermouh passed away yesterday in Bear Tararaia hospital, El-Biar. His funeral will be held on Tuesday in his native village in the Béjaïa Province. Bouguermouh, 77, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday, January 30. However, sources close to his family revealed that his health had been steadily deteriorating since June last year and he had to be admitted to hospital for several days. Abdul Rahman Bouguermouh was a noted film director. He pioneered a new Algerian artistic style and was heralded the "Father of Amazigh film". In the early 1990s, Bouguermouh directed The Forgotten Hill, Algeria’s first Amazigh language film, scripted by Mouloud Mammeri. The film depicts the impact of the Second World War on tribal communities in conflict zones. The film achieved national and international acclaim. Bouguermouh was an Amazigh culture enthusiast and was known for his passion for researching Amazigh history.
