Sudanese singer Hawa
Khartoum – Abedalgoum Ashmeag

Sudanese singer Hawa Khartoum – Abedalgoum Ashmeag   Sudanese singer Hawa Jah ar-Rassoul Mohammed, known to the public as Hawa al-Tagtaga died today after a lifetime of music, patriotism and political struggle. The folklore music pioneer also excelled at political songs and stood out as a fighter who loved freedom as much as she loved the old Sudanese flag, the colours of which [green, yellow and blue] she wore frequently. The late singer was one of the first to sing for Sudanese independence which was achieved in 1956 and taught the Sudanese people over the years about love of county and patriotism. The singer, who had fought against the British occupation and was repeatedly arrested for it, was a mainstay of national occasions. The late singer was born in 1926 in al-Rahad in the state of North Kordofan. She enjoyed an exceptional relationship with the leaders of Sudanese parties, especially those of the Democratic Unionist Party headed by Mohammed Othman al-Mirighni. She also had special relationship with the late Sudanese leader Ismail al-Azhari. Al-Azhari is a prominent national symbol who raised his country’s independent flag in 1956. Al-Tagtaga was honoured by her country on more than one occasion and remained present on Sudanese radio and television through which she encouraged communication between the young and the older generations.
