Sand art bottles in Jordan
Oman - Eman Youssef

Once Amin Zaloom puts a little sand of beige color, which acts as a background, in a small bottle and then slowly adds another colored sand, meticulously he ‘paints’ the parts of that color in the picture, which features the Jordanian environment from Petra Mountains to present a sand art bottle for visitors and locals in Jordan.

Zaloom says in an interview with Arabs Today that he began his career of sand painting 20 years ago. He added that his friend taught him the basics of the profession and how to use the colored sand.

Zaloom said that he uses natural colors produce different shapes of sand bottles.

Seeped from history, this art has become one of the most admired activities of Jordan. The artistically appealing craft was inspired by the multi-colored sand and rocks found in the Petra Mountains. Creative designs, mostly inspired by local scenes and camels grew in popularity during 1940s. The decorated bottles found from that period of time tell us that.
