The requests from several African countries for training imams in Morocco constitute a “clear recognition” of the success that Morocco has had under the King’s leadership in adopting a multi-faceted approach to the issue of combating extremism and violence in the region, said Tuesday in Washington, Robert Holley, a former U.S. diplomat.
“Request to Morocco to train the imams of many African countries is clearly a recognition of the success that Morocco has had under HM’s leadership in adopting a kind of multi-faceted approach to the issue of combating extremism and violence in the region,” Holey told MAP.
For this former diplomat, Morocco stands out in this respect by its holistic approach that focuses on culture and religious instruments by transmitting the values of moderate and tolerant Islam.
He added that “the important work done” by Morocco will contribute to fostering stability, security and prosperity in the region.
He said Morocco “has a very long history of comprehensive religious understanding, and its scholarship in these issues is unparalleled anywhere through the Mediterranean region and into Africa.”
