Tunisian Workers Union is getting ready for its second conference
Tunis – Hayat Al Gahnmy

Tunisian Workers Union will hold its second national meeting in May 19 for 3 days, with the participation of 500 members and 30 candidates, and with the attendance of international trade union organizations. Secretary General of Tunisian Workers Union, Ismail Al-Sahbani confirmed that, the union has 180,000 members, distributed among different sectors and organizations in Tunisia, asking the government to stop its marginalization policy against this huge number and to start applying laws between the union and other trade union organizations.

He said in a statement to “Arab Today” that, some officials are looking for their own good, hindering the union from achieving any benefits, and work hard to hide specific files that will condemn their organizations and reveal their violations, that the union had already reveled, confirming that, the union will continue defending its members despite all the harassments.

Al-Sahbani asked the government to carry out its role in organizing the public life, respect laws and deal neutrally with all parties to serve the public interest. He stressed on the need to activate laws regulating trade unionism, along with taking immediate actions to save the Tunisian national economy and to reduce the public anger towards government because of the continued rise in prices, purchasing power deficit, and rising unemployment especially in internal areas.

Al-Sahbani decided not to run again for General Secretariat as he wants to give the chance to diversity and to young people to add their vision to the union. Close sources to Al-Sahbani revealed that, he will leave the union to practice politics whether by joining an active party or by forming his own political party.
