Former Werder Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs confirmed today that he has signed a four-year contract to become director of sport at Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg. The 55-year-old has signed a deal with Die Wolfe until 2016 and is tasked with getting Wolfsburg out of the relegation places. "I was not unhappy in Bremen, but I just had to take this offer," explained Allofs, who spent 13 years at Werder. "There have been other offers over the last 13 years, they never appealed to me, but this time I was ready. I just had a feeling." As Bremen manager, Allofs won the 2004 Bundesliga and two German Cup titles, in 2004 and 2009, in partnership with coach Thomas Schaaf. "[Schaaf] was obviously disappointed and I found it hard to tell him, but Thomas is professional, he will have success without me," said Allofs. Bremen are ninth in the league, while the 2009 Bundesliga champions are third from bottom. "It is a pleasure to work with Klaus Allofs," said Wolfsburg's Brazil star Diego, who knows Allofs well from his Werder days between 2006 and 2009. "He is good for the team, he understands a lot about football and is one of the best managers in the league." After previous manager and coach Felix Magath was sacked at the end of last month, it looks as though caretaker coach Lorenz-Guenther Koestner will continue. From FIFA
