Marseille continued their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season as Jordan Ayew's second-half goal earned them a hard-fought 1-0 win over Nancy at Stade Marcel Picot. OM had won all four of their games coming into the fixture and shaded a nip-and-tuck affair, with Ayew's strike enough to see off a Nancy side teetering just above the drop-zone at this early stage. They did little to suggest that will be changing any time soon, with Elie Baup's Marseille doing all the running until their goal, which finally woke Nancy up. Marseille set down a marker early on, with Ayew's cross finding brother Andre, but his low strike was cleared off the line by Vincent Muratori. Andre-Pierre Gignac then tried his luck but was blocked by goalkeeper Guy N'dy Assembe, before the stopper kept out the same player after Mathieu Valbuena had played him in. Gignac was not on his game and was soon blasting over following an inch-perfect cross from Jordan Ayew, while his volley from an Andre Ayew centre was beaten away by N'dy Assembe. Fortunately for him, though, Jordan Ayew was on the money when he was presented with a chance, taking Andre Ayew's ball in and ramming home with 53 minutes gone. That was the kick Nancy needed to get going but even then they did little to make a comeback, with Lossemy Karaboue having an effort deflected and Steve Mandanda tipping away following a scramble their only moments of promise.
