London - Arabstoday

English second-tier side Blackburn Rovers announced on Thursday that caretaker coaches Gary Bowyer and Terry McPhillips will remain in charge of the team until the end of January. Reserve team manager Bowyer and youth coach McPhillips stepped up when Norwegian coach Henning Berg was sacked last week after only 57 days at the helm at Ewood Park. Blackburn, owned by Indian poultry firm Venky's, have since won back-to-back games under their guidance, winning 3-1 at Barnsley at the weekend before prevailing 3-0 against Nottingham Forest on New Year's Day. "This decision follows discussions between the owners, directors and global advisor (Shebby Singh)," read a statement on the club website. "The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Gary, Terry and the rest of the staff for their sterling efforts over recent days, which have helped produce two successive and important league victories. "The club's search for a new permanent manager will continue in earnest." Blackburn, who face Bristol City in the FA Cup third round on Saturday, are currently in 13th place in the Championship, five points below the play-off places. Berg became the second manager to leave the club this season, after Steve Kean said he was "forced to resign" in September because his position had become "untenable". From : AFP
