Former world champion triple jumper Phillips Idowu is on course to be fit in time to compete at the London Games, the British Olympic Association (BOA) said Tuesday. Idowu, 33, did not travel to Great Britain's pre-Games training camp in Portugal. The Beijing 2008 silver medallist then reacted angrily when the BOA requested his medical records as he stayed home for treatment on what was described as a nerve problem in his hip and back. "Our medical team are in discussions with Phillips' team, including his physio," said BOA chef de mission Andy Hunt. "Phillips is making good progress and, right now, we expect Phillips to compete." The triple jump qualifiers take place a week on Tuesday. Idowu, from Hackney, on the edge of the Olympic Park in east London, pulled out from this month's London Grand Prix just 25 minutes before his event was due to start. He has not jumped competitively since a meeting in Oregon in the United States on June 1, when he took three jumps before sitting out the remainder of the meet and Idowu subsequently withdrew from meetings in Oslo and Paris, as well as the British Olympic trials in Birmingham.
