Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand was on Thursday recalled to the England squad for the World Cup qualifying games against San Marino and Montenegro. England coach Roy Hodgson had previously stated that he wanted to "move on" from Ferdinand's England tenure, but he has given the 34-year-old an opportunity to add to his 81 caps. West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster also earned a recall, as well as Tottenham Hotspur pair Michael Dawson and Scott Parker. England visit San Marino on March 22, followed by a trip to Group H leaders Montenegro on March 26.
