Clemens Fritz has bucked the trend of players leaving Werder Bremen by signing a new two-year contract. The 31-year-old defender has committed himself to the northern Germany club until 2014 after putting pen to paper on a new deal. With Tim Wiese recently announcing his departure at the end of the season, Claudio Pizarro making himself available for transfer and Naldo repeatedly expressing his desire to return to Brazil, Fritz's show of commitment will be welcomed by Werder fans."Clemens is a real fixture at Werder Bremen - he is our captain and he also plays a big role off the field," said the club's director of sport Klaus Allofs. "We are delighted to have been able to extend his contract."Fritz, who is a candidate for the Germany squad for UEFA EURO 2012, insists signing a new deal was not a difficult decision to make."I am convinced this young side has a lot of potential," he said. "I am very happy in Bremen and I have held good talks with the management. Therefore, it was very easy for me to sign."
