John Guidetti scored a hat-trick as Feyenoord dished out a spanking to defending Eredivisie champions Ajax at De Kuip. Feyenoord have been very much in the shadow of their rivals in recent years but they were 2-1 up at the break as Guidetti struck twice, including one from the spot, to cancel out Christian Eriksen's opener. Otman Bakkal extended the lead five minutes after the break before Dmitry Bulykin pulled one back tenminutes from the end, but on-loan Manchester City striker Guidetti struck again three minutes later to steal the headlines. Both goalkeepers were in the action early, Kenneth Vermeer keeping out Guidetti's 25-yard effort and Erwin Mulder holding on when Vurnon Amita should have done better. Eriksen opened the scoring in the 19th minute when he turned Ron Vlaar and fired home from 25 yards. After 25 minutes Lorenzo Ebicilio was handed a great chance to double the lead thanks to a mistake by Bruno Martins Indi, but his effort was straight at Mulder. And it proved a costly miss when, five minutes later, Jan Vertonghen slid in rashly on Guidetti in the area and the Swedish teenager converted from the spot. Vertonghen missed the chance to atone ten minutes later when he headed straight at Mulder. And Feyenoord took the lead three minutes before the break when Vermeer saved Bakkal's header from Jordy Clasie's free-kick with his foot, but Guidetti snaffled the rebound. It was 3-1 five minutes after the break when Bakkal was given time and space to pick his spot from the edge of the area. Bulykin took advantage of some indecision from Mulder to pull one back, but Guidetti completed his hat-trick after being played in by Ruben Schaken on the break to ensure the home fans did not have to endure a nervy finish.
