Crisis-hit French giants Marseille fell to new lows today with elimination from the French Cup quarter-finals by third-tier part-timers Quevilly. Quevilly, from the northern French region of Normandy, produced an epic performance in a game played at the home of Ligue 1 club Caen to emerge 3-2 winners after two periods of extra time and thus qualify for the semi-finals. It is the second time in three seasons that Quevilly have reached the last four of the competition while for Marseille this was a seventh straight defeat in all competitions. Marseille qualified for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League with victory over Inter Milan last week, but at home it's a different story for Didier Deschamps' side. Relegation-threatened Dijon dented their hopes of securing European football next season with a shock 2-1 win on Saturday, their fifth consecutive league defeat. It has left them ninth in the table and in danger even of missing out on qualifying for Europe's second-tier club competition, the UEFA Europa League.
