PSG-Barca tickets selling for over €1000

A number of Internet sites have been offering tickets for Tuesday's eagerly awaited Champions League quarter-final clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona for more than 1,000 euros ($1,200, £842). The French capital club has said that it had received between 700,000 and one million requests for tickets for the last-eight first leg tie at the Parc des Princes, which has a capacity of just 45,000. Touts stepped in as club switchboards and the ticket office went into meltdown, selling black-market tickets for hundreds of euros in the vicinity of the ground. But astronomical sums have also been recorded on Internet ticket sites. On viagogo.com, a resale site with which PSG has a partnership, seats were on sale for between 195 and 1,200 euros while on the auction site eBay, the asking price ranged from 150 euros to 1,400 euros. When the club put tickets on sale to the general public, the cheapest seats were 50 euros and the most expensive 350 euros. The club's deputy director-general Frederic Longuepee had previously told Le Parisien newspaper that it was possible to cancel tickets acquired on the black market.
