Vasco da Gama creeps into 3rd place of Brazilian Championship

Vasco da Gama rolled to a 2-0 victory against Coritiba at home in the 22nd round of the 2011 Brazilian Championship. The result propels Vasco da Gama into third place of the tournament with 16 rounds remaining in this year's running-point tournament. Vasco da Gama claimed the lead in the 28th minute when Julinho Pernambucano expertly directed a free kick from roughly 25 meters out into the Coritiba goal. The ball slammed into the goalpost before entering, taking a lucky bounce and ricocheting into the back of the net. Vasco da Gama increased its lead in the 55th minute by Romulo. The win improves Vasco da Gama into the third place with 41 points.
