After the promising results of Morocco’s national football team by qualifying for the African Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Equatorial Guinea and Angola from 21 January 12 February 2012, it seems that the Moroccan Federation of soccer is determined to enable the Atlas Lions to play as many friendly games as possible before the start of the competition. With the Atlas Lions back in good form, the Moroccan Federation of Football seeks to secure friendly games with the world’s top teams. Sources acquainted with Morocco’s soccer have reported that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation is looking into the possibility that the Atlas Lions and German national teams play two friendly games in the coming weeks. The agent of the coach of Morocco’s national team, Eric Gertz, who happens to be at the same time the agent of Joachim Loew, Germany’s national coach, has been in intensive contact with officials of the German Federation in order to schedule two friendly games back to back in Morocco and Germany. Morocco’s coach Eric Gertz decided that the top players of the Atlas Lions would take part in the two games in order to provide them with the opportunity to play at the highest level and gain more experience. Morocco’s Football Federation is making sure that the dates of the two games do not coincide with the “LG” tournament, scheduled to take place in the city of Marrakech and the African qualifying campaign for the upcoming Olympic Games in London. Morocco and Germany played each other on only two occasions, both of which were during the World Cup. The first game was played in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico when Germany beat Morocco in the first round with two goals to one. The second game played was in the second round of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, when Germany scored its winning goal at the 88th minute of the game. That year Germany went all the way to the final of the World Cup and lost to Maradona’s Argentina with 3 goals to 2. With its qualification to the second round of the World Cup in 1986 in Mexico, Morocco was the first Arab and African country to go past the first round.
