The 6th Fazza IPC Power-lifting World Cup - Dubai 2015, organised and supervised by the Hamdan bin Mohammed Heritage Centre (HHC) and Dubai Club for the Disabled in association with the Public Authority for Youth and Sport, Dubai Sports Council, and Emirates Paralympics Committee, will kick off on Thursday (March 12, 2015).
The event is organised under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council.
The launch of the championship, which continues until 19 March 2015, was announced at a press conference hosted by the Organising Committee of Fazza National Championships for People with Disability at the Dubai Club for the Disabled. The championship, to be held at the Dubai Club for the Disabled, will see the participation of 133 athletes from 24 countries including the United Arab Emirates, Azerbaijan, Jordan, Algeria, Iraq, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Ireland, Thailand, Egypt, Slovakia, Syria, France, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Netherlands, India, Mongolia, Poland, Ukraine, Turkmenistan, Hungary, and Ivory Coast.
The press conference was attended by Thani Juma Berregad - Chairman of the Dubai Club for the Disabled and Head of the Organising Committee, Hamad Beljafla - head of the championship's Public Relations Committee, Fatima Arif Bannai - Director of Media Office at HHC, and Nageem Almeshkan from the technical committee.
Speaking at the press conference, Thani Juma Berregad expressed his thanks and gratitude to H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for his patronage and support of sports activities, especially for the disabled. He also thanked HHC for their efforts and for the support they extend to ensure the success of this global event. "We deeply value the vital role played by the HHC in ensuring the success of sporting events organised by the Dubai Club for the Disabled, which have contributed greatly to reinforcing the reputation of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates for hosting world-class international sporting championships." He added, "Working groups were created and a comprehensive plan outlined for each committee to help ensure the success of this championship. All preparations for the championship have now been completed and the facilities and services to be provided to the participants have been finalised, which will be implemented to the fullest in a way that befits the UAE's global reputation." Fatima Arif Bannai - Director of Media Office at HHC, praised the efforts of the Organising Committee and the working groups in Dubai Club for the Disabled. She said, "Last year's Fazza International Power-lifting Championship was a huge success, thanks to the grace of God and the unremitting support of the Crown Prince of Dubai and his commitment to creating world-class tournaments." She added, "We at HHC will make sure that all necessary support is provided to ensure the success of this championship which will unveil new champions and heroes who will be a strong asset to their country." Jon Amos, IPC Power-lifting Chairman, will host a special workshop for the tournament's referees, wherein he will discuss at length the rules and regulations surrounding the sport of power-lifting as well as various techniques related to the sport.
Teams participating in the competition are scheduled to arrive on 12 March, and players will be classified according to the type of disability on 13 March, followed by the official inauguration of the tournament and the technical meeting of the Organising Committee on 14 March. The tournament's competitions will begin on 15 March and continue until 18 March 2015.
This is the fourth championship under the umbrella of the Fazza Championships for People with Disability to be held this season, after the Fazza National Championships for People with Disability, Fazza International Para-Archery Competition, Fazza International Athletics IPC Grand Prix Dubai 2015, which witnessed the participation of around 500 athletes. The Fazza International Championship for Boccia is due to be held in April 2015, followed by Fazza International Wheelchair Basketball Championships in May 2015.
