The futsal team of the Gulf Cable and Electrical Industries Co. was crowned champion of the Late Abdullah Al-Roudhan Indoor Soccer Tournament after beating the team of Lily White Co. 3-1 on Saturday evening.
The spectacular final match, held at Martyr Ahmad Al-Fahad Center in Al-Da'iya neighborhood, was graced by the presence of Minister of Information and minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah; it drew a large numbers of spectators.
Speaking to reporters at the closing ceremony of the tournament, Sheikh Salman extolled His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his kind patronage of the nine-day event.
He took pride in representing His Highness the Amir at the closing ceremony, congratulating futsal team of the Gulf Cable and Electrical Industries Co. on the win.
On his part, Sheikh Ahmad who doubles as President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) said the continuation of the tournament for three and a half decades testifies to its success and growing popularity.
"Since the inception of the tournament Al-Roudhan family have been making praiseworthy efforts in setting the stage for the annual events of this exciting and wonderful tournament," he added.
He noted that this tournament is one of the essential constituent sports events in the holy month of Ramadan.
