London - Arabstoday

Argentina international Juan Ignacio Mercier has completed his move to Al Wasl, and could make his debut in their President’s Cup clash with Al Wahda on Tuesday night, a club spokesman confirmed. The 31-year-old will be reunited with Diego Maradona, the man who handed him his international debut, in Dubai after deciding to call time on his short stay in Saudia Arabia with Al Nassr. Details of the deal are yet to be announced, but the spokesman told Sport360° the midfielder had signed and would be eligible to face Wahda. “He has signed and is registered,” the spokesman confirmed. “The decision on whether he will play will be made by Maradona and his technical staff, if they feel he is ready and they need him.” Maradona will be hoping the arrival of the former Argentinos Juniors player can help the club halt a slide that has seen them win just one game in all competitions since November 25. The capture of Mercier also appears to spell the end of Edson Puch’s brief sojourn in UAE football. The Chile international arrived in Dubai full of promise, and vowed to continue to continue the form he showed in his homeland, that saw him narrowly miss out on a place at the 2010 World Cup. However, the diminutive star has failed to settle on and off the pitch since his move to the Zabeel Stadium and even went AWOL at the end of October. The playmaker's future is likely to become clearer this week after Wasl confirmed they were studying "several offers" received over the weekend for Puch, with a return to South America is most likely destination.
