Bahrain’s karate and fencing teams have stepped up their preparations for the Fourth GCC Women’s Sports Tournament in Sharjah.

The tournament will run from February 2 to 12, and will bring together teams from around the Arab region to compete in a number of sports.

In her visit to the karate team, Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) board member and chairwoman of the Women’s Sport Committee Shaikha Hayat bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa was welcomed by Bahrain Martial Arts Federation president Ahmed Al Khayyat and vice-president Omar Bukamal.

They briefed Shaikha Hayat on the training programme of Fai Khalifa who is the only Bahraini representative in the karate championship.

Later on, Shaikha Hayat headed for the fencing team training at Um Al Hassam Sports Complex, where she met general secretary of the Bahrain Fencing Association, Saleh Faraj, and other board members.

Al Hala Club will be representing the kingdom in fencing, as Shaikha Hayat urged the players to give their best in the tournament, and wished them success.
