Kuwait were defeated 2-0 by the United Arab Emirates in the opening fixture of the six-nation Men's Under 23 Gulf Cup (for Olympic national teams), however all hope is not yet lost for Al-Azrag.
Yousef Al-Balouchi opened the scoring in the 71st minute before Ali Salmeen completed the one-time holders deserved triumph in stoppage time.
Kuwait, who have never won the competition, and the UAE are both in Group A, alongside Qatar. Meanwhile, hosts and defending champions Bahrain are pitted against two-time title holders Saudi Arabia and one-time holders Oman in the tougher Group B.
The champions will later be involved in a much-anticipated encounter against Saudi Arabia.
Kuwait still has a huge chance to progress in the round-robin competition as both the first and second of each group will fight it out in a semi-final.
