Kuwaitis Abdullah Maqdes and Mohammad AlGhareeb claimed a three straightset victory over Iran's Anousha Shahgholi and Omid Souri in the 2015 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone relegation playoff doubles on Saturday.
The Kuwaiti duo edged the first set, 67, before dominating the next two 26 and 06 on day two of the event held at Tehran's Enghelab Sports Complex.
The result leaves the Kuwaitis in a favourable position of needing one more win over the course of the next two matches in order to qualify for the global tournament, Kuwait Tennis Federation Vice President Abdulsamed AlAryan told KUNA. Maqdes prepares to face Iranian Mohsen Hosseinzadeh in the singles on Sunday with every chance of advancing after the Iranian's earlier loss to AlGhareeb, added the Kuwaiti official.
