Diego Maradona made a winning start to the new UAE League season as his Al Wasl side overcame Al Sharjah 3-0. Juan Manuel Oliveira netted a hat-trick for the hosts, opening the scoring from the spot after a quarter of an hour and adding two more after the break to claim the points. Elsewhere, first-half goals from Ismail Ahmed and Yasser Al Qahtani saw Al Ain down Al Nasr 2-0, while Fawzi Basheer's equaliser five minutes before the break saw Bani Yas draw 1-1 at Ajman. Ebrahim Toure had given the hosts a 22nd-minute lead.
