His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, today received the players of the National Jiu-Jitsu Team who won gold medals at the 9th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2017, in His Highness’s Council at the Al Bahr Palace.

The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Ruler`s Representative in the Eastern Region; H.H.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation; H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior; H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, and several sheikhs and senior officials, and several citizens.

The National Jiu-Jitsu Team was accompanied by Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, President of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, UAEJJF, and the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and First Deputy President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, with members of the UAEJJF and the administrative and technical bodies of the national team.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed congratulated the champions who achieved honourable results in the championship’s youth and adult categories, which concluded its activities yesterday at the IPIC Arena at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed expressed his happiness at the results, which made the nation happy, and for meeting the winners and their achievements in this advanced and high-level sport. His Highness praised the efforts of the organising committees, players and technical and administrative bodies, whose efforts and teamwork, along with the determination and excellence of the players, resulted in achieving honourable results in the international history of jiu-jitsu.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed also expressed his appreciation for the companies and institutions that sponsored the Abu Dhabi Championship, which positively affected the advancement and excellence of this international championship.

The players expressed their happiness at meeting His Highness Sheikh Mohamed, adding that these results were achieved through the grace of Allah Almighty, and through the support and sponsorship of the wise leadership for sports in general and specifically Jiu-Jitsu, while promising His Highness their continuing efforts in winning international titles and their constant striving to develop their skills and capabilities.

The 9th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship was held between 10th and 23rd April, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed.

The championship witnessed the participation of over 7,000 players from 100 countries, with UAE champions achieving 32 coloured medals, including 15 gold, 16 silver and one bronze medal.

The gold medals were won by Mubarak Amr, Jassem Saeed Mubarak, Salem Al Hosni, Mohammed Al Shamsi, Ibrahim Al Hosni, Mohammed Nasser Al Qubaisi, Ahmed bin Howaiden Al Kutubi, Yahia Mansour Al Hammadi, Mohammed Abdullah Al Dormoki, Khalifa Humaid Al Kaabi, Humaid Yasser Al Kaabi, Salem Sultan Al Dhaheri, Omar Al Fadli, Muhra Saleh Al Hana’i and Dima Saeed Al Yafei.
