H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, on Saturday crowned winners of the annual Zayed Marathon at Yas Marina Circuit.
The Zayed Marathon honours the country's late founding father Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and is held this year under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, under the theme ‘the day the UAE runs.' Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan competed in the main 10km run.
The Armed Forces Officers' Club, Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company have teamed up to stage the marathon and, for the first time, it is open free to children through 1km and 3km events. The 1km run is being held for children aged eight to 11 and the 3km is for youngsters aged 12 to 15.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, Lieutenant General Mohammad Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Marathon's organising committee, and other senior sports officials were present.
