The Qatari Basketball team will take on Japanese counterparts in the beginning of their campaign in the 4th FIBA Asia Cup on Friday. The championship will be held from 14 to 22 September 2012. The Qatari team will compete in Group (B) alongside Iran, India, Chinese Taipei and Japan, while Group (A) included Lebanon, China and Macau, Philippines and Uzbekistan. The 4th FIBA Asia Cup is the qualifying event for the 27th FIBA Asia Championship in 2013, which in turn will be the qualifying event for 2014 FIBA World Cup. The winners of the 4th IBA Asia Cup will automatically qualify for the 27th FIBA Asia Championship in 2013. The top teams at the 4th FIBA Asia Cup will earn additional berths for their respective FIBA Asia sub zones. From : Qatar Olympic Committee
