HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, praised the achievements accomplished by Bahrain Merida Cycling Team in its first season in the UCI World Tour, in which the Team topped the podium in the La Vuelta a Espana Tour and Giro d'Italia Tour. This came during HH's reception to the main sponsors of the Team.
During the meeting, HH Shaikh Nasser stressed his confidence in the team, stating that he had promised HM the King that Bahrain Merida Cycling Team would promote the Kingdom worldwide. "This was achieved after the Team topped podiums on many occasions," HH Shaikh Nasser stated, underlining: "I have been impressed with the wide-ranging international coverage the Team has received. And this has promoted the Kingdom of Bahrain on the international stage."
HH Shaikh Nasser pointed out that the Team would focus on winning the Tour de France which is the strongest cycling race in the world. "Bahrain will become the centre of attention of the world and will largely benefit from hosting a tour next season given the great returns that will be generated," HH Shaikh Nasser revealed during the meeting, at the end of which he expressed his utmost appreciation to the sponsoring companies and institutions for helping the Team to make several achievements during its debut season, singling out the national companies for praise due to their active role in promoting Bahrain's sports.
