First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sport and President of the Bahrain Athletics Association Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa received here today the Secretary-General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar.
Askar handed over to Shaikh Khalid the Most Innovative Sports Event Award, conferred on him by the India-based CSR, as part of the Africa CSR Leadership Awards, including many categories, for launching the "Khalid bin Hamad Swimming Challenge."
Shaikh Khalid expressed sincere appreciation to the Bahrain Olympic Committee, led by Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, for its pro-youth efforts.
He praised Shaikh Nasser's directives to diversify programmes to develop Bahraini sport, which, he said enhanced Bahrain's status and gained its international acclaim.
He valued highly the role played by CSR in honouring athletes for the sake of promoting sports and upgrading communities across the world.
He pledged that the "Khalid bin Hamad Swimming Challenge" would continue in order to pave the way for youth from Bahrain and abroad to swim from Saudi Arabia to Bahrain, noting that the monument and the website of the challenge (Khalidbinhamadchallenge.bh) had been inaugurated.
He added that the key event, whose proceeds would be allocated for cancer patients, would be held in April, 2015.
Shaikh Khalid also received the commemorative plaque of Bahrain's historic achievements during the 17th Asian Games, hosted by Incheon, South Korea, last September.
