Syria has ranked first in the West Asian Wrestling Championship which concluded activities on Tuesday in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad. Syria, participating through al-Quneitra club, has won 4 gold medals, 2 silver and 1 bronze against 7 Arab countries, while Iraq ranked second and Lebanon third. The Syrian wrestlers who won the gold medals are: Tammam Farran, at 55 kg (121 lbs) weight class, Ahmad Darwish, at 60 kg (132 lbs), Nizar Awdeh, at 84 kg (184.8 lbs) and Houssam Homid, at 120kg (264 lbs). Wrestlers Mohammad Faouri, at 66 kg (145.2 lbs), Nawzat al-saleh, at 120kg (264 lbs), won the bronze medals, while wrestler Rateb al-Hayek, at 74 kg (162.8 lbs), won the bronze medal.
