Doha - Arab Today

The UAE swimming team has been awarded 15 medals, including eight gold, four silver and three bronze, at the 25th GCC Swimming Championship, currently being held in Qatar. This makes the UAE team runner-up to Qatar with a difference of 5 golds, and thus the closest it has ever been to obtaining the GCC title in the championship's history.

Yaaqub Al Saadi from Al Ain Swimming Club succeeded in achieving a new international and personal best in the 200 metres backstroke with a time of 58:34 seconds, he also achieved another personal record by winning three gold medals.

Ahmad Al Hosani was awarded the gold medal in the 50 metres freestyle, and silver went to Mohammed Jasim. Mubarak Salem won gold medals for 50 and 100 metres breaststroke, while Mohammed Al Ghaferi won gold medals in the 50 metres backstroke and 50 metres butterfly.
