By William Mackay: Angel Garcia, the father of WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KO’s), doesn’t see former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) being a problem at all for his son Danny. Khan and the 24-year-old Garcia will be fighting on July 14th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Khan could get the WBA title back by the time he faces Garcia. Right now there’s a possibility that the World Boxing Association may strip Lamont Peterson of the title and either give it back to Khan or have it vacant for the Khan-Garcia fight. Danny’s father Angel said this to RingTV “Well, Khan is a nobody. As I have said, he’s an overrated fighter…Khan will be looking up at the lights upside down.” Garcia does have some power and he’s got the work rate to give Khan fits if he’s able to catch up to him. Khan has already said that he plans on fighting in a slick manner, which translated probably means he’s going to hit and run more than he did in his last fight, a 12 round decision loss to Peterson last December. Khan was trying to be slick in that fight, but Peterson did such a great job of cutting off the ring and catching up to Khan. Peterson literally had to job after Khan because that was the only way he catch up to him because of Khan’s constant movement. When Peterson did catch up to Khan, he was often shoved away or grabbed by the head and pulled forward. The referee allowed the head grabbing but took points off for Khan’s constant shoving. I thought the head pulling down, as well as the head-locks from Khan, should have resulted in penalization’s as well. Garcia will have to cut off the ring and stay on top of Khan if he wants to win. He can’t let Khan play his hit and run style of fighting and hope to succeed.
