Former champion Ramy Ashour regained the world title on Friday with a marathon 2-11, 11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8 win over Egyptian compatriot Mohammed El Shorbagy. Ashour had already made certain of taking over as world number one by beating defending champion Nick Matthew in the semi-finals. His brilliance on the volley and with surprising angles just prevailed against Shorbagy's movement and abilities at the front -- but only after the younger man had led 8-7 in the decider. Shorbagy, the 21-year-old England-based player, had beaten the top-seeded world number one, James Willstrop in the semi-finals.
