World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka sailed through a first-round win but fourth-seeded Petra Kvitova was ousted in the second round of the China Open in Beijing. Azarenka won 70 percent of the points when receiving serve in a 6-1, 6-0 rout of Alize Cornet Monday. The only game Cornet won came on a service break as Azarenka finished off 6-of-10 of her break point opportunities. Kvitova fell to Carla Suarez Navarro 6-3, 6-2 in 68 minutes. Suarez Navarro ended up with five breaks in the eight games Kvitova served. She also won about two-thirds of the points on serve, although she lost her serve once in each set. In other second-round matches, 11th-seeded Ana Ivanovic got past Varvara Lepchenko 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, Elena Vesnina stopped Tamira Paszek 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 and Peng Shuai outlasted Yaroslava Shvedova 5-7, 7-5, 6-2. The first-round wrapped up Monday with second-seeded Maria Sharapova and No. 10 Caroline Wozniacki joining Azarenka in the second round. Sharapova defeated Simona Halep 7-5, 7-5 behind three breaks in each set. Wozniacki survived with a 7-5, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2 decision over Chanelle Scheepers that took 2 3/4 hours. Other first-round winners Monday were Sabine Lisicki, Lara Arruabarrena-Veci, Polona Hercog and Sorana Cirstea.
