A two-run single by Howard Kendrick capped off a three-run ninth Friday, rallying the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-4 win over Seattle. The Mariners owned a 4-3 lead heading into the ninth and Brandon League came on to try to nail down the victory. Mark Trumbo singled on the first pitch of the inning and League then walked Alberto Callaspo. Erick Aybar laid down a bunt and League's bid to cut down the lead runner resulted in a wild throw that allowed the tying run to score. Kole Calhoun was walked intentionally to load the bases and Kendrick followed with his two-run single that brought the Angels their fourth straight victory. League (0-4) suffered his fourth blown save in 13 chances. Jason Isringhausen (1-0) worked the eighth to get the win. Scott Downs retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth for his fourth save. Justin Smoak drove in all the Seattle runs on a fielder's choice grounder in the first, a single in the third and a two-run blast in the fifth. Albert Pujols cut the Los Angeles deficit to one by hitting a three-run homer in the sixth. It was his third home run in four games and sixth of the year.
