The UAE's Omar Behroozian will lead the local challenge against a star-studded field of players from other Gulf nations at the Shaikh Zayed Cup to be held at the Fujairah Tennis Academy and Le Meridien Al Aqah. Held under the auspices of Shaikh Rashid Bin Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi, Chairman of Fujairah Cultural and Media Authority and President of Fujairah Tennis and Country Club, the tournament is scheduled to finish on Monday. Defence Former ATP professional Peter Wessels, who is now based in the UAE, returns to defend his title, while last year's runner-up Behroozian will be aiming to go one better as he takes on players from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman. "The Shaikh Zayed Cup is among the most respected local tennis tournaments in the UAE and we are thrilled to be teaming up with some of the promising talents from the region," said Patrick Antaki, general manager, of Le Meridien Al Aqah. Qatari Sultan Khalifa and Omani brothers Khalid and Mohammad Al Nabhani are also playing. Former Gulf champion Badr Al Muqeel is the lone player from Saudi Arabia, while current champion Mohammad Gareeb of Kuwait is also in the draw.
