The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) were held to a 1-1 draw by South Korea in an Asian Cup women's soccer qualifier here on Friday.
In the packed Kim Il Sung Stadium in downtown Pyongyang, host player Sung Hyang-sim opened the scoring at the 45th minute after missing a penalty strike, and South Korea made it even through Jang Seul-gi at the 75th minute.
The two teams were fighting for top position in Group B qualifying tournament of the Asian Football Confederation Women's Asian Cup Jordan 2018.
Despite overwhelming cheerings from the spectators, DPRK were forced to share control of the field with South Korea almost half by half, with both sides threatening each other's goal over a dozen times.
DPRK will have to beat Uzbekistan in the next match with substantial goals to qualify for the finals in Jordan, while South Korea will take on Hong Kong of China and Uzbekistan.
This was the first time for South Korean footballers to play in DPRK in 27 years.
