Tour de France champion Cadel Evans won the Criterium International second stage time trial here on Saturday. The Australian star, riding for the BMC team, took control of the overall standings after the 6.5km run in this southern Corsican town ahead of the third and final stage on Sunday. Evans came in 0.3sec clear of his compatriot Michael Rogers, a three time world champion in the discipline, with Germany's Simon Geschke 1sec back in third. This was Evans' first win of the season and it came eight months after his success in the Tour de France. He said: "I've been feeling in good shape since the Tirreno-Adriatico. I'm focussing all on the Tour again, nothing will deflect me from that." Commenting on Rogers' bold showing Evans added: "I'm happy to see him come back like that, he's had a fair amount of bad luck in the last few years." And on his prospects of outright victory on Sunday he remarked: "We'll see what happens tomorrow but if I do end up losing it's not a big deal." France's Florian Vachon of the Bretagne-Schuller team won the first stage held earlier Saturday, a 89.5km ride around Porto-Vecchio. Vachon beat home compatriot Laurent Mangel in a sprint for the line.
