Mohamed Farah of Britain took gold in the men's 5,000m in 13 minutes and 23.36 seconds on Sunday night at the Daegu world championships. Fatah, 28, who is a Somali-born British middle-distance runner, took the lead in the last lap. In the final 100 meters, his competitors were challenging him, but he also charged ahead and crossed the finish line first. It was his first world title in the men's 5,000m. Bernard Lagat of the United States finished second in 13:23.64. Imane Merga of Ethiopia took bronze in 13:23.78.
