Roger Federer continues to sit atop the men's tennis rankings as the ATP schedule moves to Asia and some key tournaments. No. 5 David Ferrer and ninth-ranked Janko Tipsarevic are the only Top 10 players in action this week but with the China Open beginning Oct. 1 and the Shanghai Masters the following week, more high-profile players are expected to be in action soon. The next month will determine the final four players to receive invitations to the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals, which begin Nov. 5 in London. The only Top 10 player in action last week was No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who defended his title at the Moselle Open. That result kept the Top 10 static this week. Federer has 11,805 points for first in the rankings, not far ahead of Novak Djokovic (10,470). Andy Murray is third with 8,570 and Rafael Nadal is fourth at 7,385. Those four have qualified for the World Tour Finals. David Ferrer, who is seeded first at the Malaysian Open this week, is ranked fifth and has 5,960 points while Tomas Berdych (4,965) is sixth and Tsonga (4,520) comes in seventh ahead of No. 8 Juan Martin del Potro (3,850). Tipsarevic is the defending champion at Kuala Lumpur and has 3,285 rankings points. John Isner is No. 10 with 2,610. In addition to Tsonga taking a championship, Martin Klizan won the St. Petersburg Open in Russia for his first ATP title. That boosts him 12 spots to a career-high No. 33 ranking.
