Ryan Giggs has put himself forward for the Olympic football team — and wants to play with his former Manchester United teammate David Beckham. United midfielder Giggs has spoken to Team GB head coach Stuart Pearce to declare his availability for London. The 38-year-old former Wales captain said: "I've put myself forward to be involved. Whether I get picked, we'll have to wait and see. Obviously everybody is excited about it, about the Olympics coming to London and the football being played in different parts of Britain." Giggs wants to roll back the years and have 37-year-old Beckham, now with LA Galaxy, on the other flank just like they were during their glorious years together at Old Trafford.Giggs said: "I don't think it'll be like 20 years ago when we were both up and down. We might be able to get up but we won't be able to get back down again. "Becks is a friend and he's a great player and still remains that, so if that was to be, it would be great. "Obviously I started my career with Becks playing in the youth team. Twenty years later to be still doing that, it would be great. We'll have to wait and see. "I've not played in a tournament, so it would be nice to do that, to be involved in a tournament atmosphere. I've never experienced that." Hot topic Beckham's inclusion has been a hot topic recently. Last week, he refuted claims that he could be selected to fill stadiums and sell shirts and argued he has played for top teams and won trophies throughout his career. Only three players over the age of 23 are permitted in the 18-man squad. Pearce has until mid-July to name his squad but said he wants to do so early to give players and clubs time to prepare. GB have a warm-up game against Brazil on July 20 and then start the tournament in their group against Senegal five days later. Fittingly, it would seem, Old Trafford is the venue.
