Hungarian swimmers picked up four from seven gold medals on offer and nine medals in total on day four of the 2012 European Swimming Championships in Debrecen on Thursday. In a Hungary one-two in the 200m butterfly final, Laszlo Cseh pipped his compatriot Bence Biczo to gold. Cseh finished in 1:54. 95 minutes, 0.9 seconds ahead of his compatriot while Ioannis Drymonakos of Greece trailed in third (1:56.48). Daniel Gyurta posted a new European Championship record time of 2:08.60 minutes in the 200m breaststroke final. Marc Koch of Germany won silver (2:09.26) and Panagiotis Samilidis of Greece bronze (2:09.72). Katinka Hosszu, who won gold in the women's 400m individual medley on day one, powered home in the 200m medley final in 2:10. 84 minutes, ahead of Sophie Allen of Great Britain (2:11.49) and Evelyn Verraszto, also of Hungary (2:11.63). Boglarka Kapas took gold in the women's 800m freestyle in 8:26. 49 minutes followed by Coralie Balmy of France (8:27.79) and Eva Risztov, also of Hungary (8:27.87). Elsewhere on day four of the meet, Israel's Jonatan Kopelev won gold in the men's 50m backstroke final with a time of 24.73 seconds. Mirco Di Tora of Italy (24.95) and Richard Bohus of Hungary (25.14) also made the podium. Jenny Mensing of Germany won the women's 100m backstroke final in 1:00.08 minutes ahead of Arianna Barbieri of Italy (1:00.54) and Simona Baumrtova of the Czech Republic (1:00.57). In the final event of the day, Hungary narrowly missed out on their fifth gold in the 4x200m freestyle relay, Italy (Alice Mizzau, Alice Nesti, Diletta Carli, Federica Pellegrini) narrowly winning with a time of 7:52.90 minutes ahead of the Hungarians ( Zsuzsanna Jakabos, Evelyn Verraszto, Agnes Mutina, Katinka Hosszu) who finished less than two seconds behind on 7:54.70. Slovenia ( Sara Isakovic, Anja Klinar, Ursa Bezan, Mojca Sagmeister) took the bronze medal in 7:59.73.
