South Korea's Hur Mi-Jung fired a five-under par 67 to grab a share of the lead alongside Paula Reto after three rounds of the LPGA Yokohama Tire Classic.
Reto, a South African rookie who led by three going into the round, on Saturday carded a two-under par 70 to join Hur on 15-under par 201.
The duo are four strokes in front of world number one Stacy Lewis and her fellow American Kris Tamulis.
Tamulis posted the low round of the day on the Senator course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Capitol Hill Golf Club. She had seven birdies in a flawless seven-under 65 while Lewis -- who won this title the last time the event was played in 2012 -- signed for a 70.
It was another three strokes back to Thailand's Moriya Jutanugarn and American Alison Walshe, who both shot 71 for 208.
Hur carded four of her six birdies on the back nine as she dueled with Reto.
"At the beginning of the round, my putting wasn't that good, but after I turned my putting got better and better," Hur said.
Reto's six birdies helped her overcome a double-bogey five at the par-three seventh, along with two bogeys.
"I didn't start too well, had a couple bogeys and a double there, but I kept patient and just focused on one shot at a time," the South African said.
"I was a little mad and I just took 10 steps and I told myself, 'Get over it. There's so much more golf left.'"
Reto birdied three of her last five holes to maintain a share of the lead.
Sitting four adrift, Lewis said she could score her fourth win of the season Sunday, but her round would need a faster start.
"It really depends what they do," she said of Hur and Reto.
"If I can get to 18-, 19-under, I think I have a chance, but obviously that's getting off to a good start and making some birdies early," said Lewis, who bogeyed two of her first four holes on Saturday.
"Some low numbers have been shot all week and it's definitely out there."
