Second-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia advanced to the third round of the Texas Open Tuesday with a straight-set win over Arantxa Rus. Jankovic had her hands full in the first set against her Dutch opponent but then cruised to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 victory in the U.S. Open tune-up tournament. Roberta Vinci of Italy, the third seed in the event, knocked off Polona Hercog of Slovakia 6-2, 6-3, and sixth-seeded Shuai Peng of China ousted France's Pauline Parmentier 6-4, 6-2. Seventh-seeded Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa and eighth-seeded Sorana Cirstea of Romania also advanced, but fourth-seeded Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium lost to Australian Casey Dellacqua.
