Second-seeded Petra Kvitova won her second tournament of the month Saturday, downing Russian Maria Kirilenko to take the New Haven Open at Yale. The Czech Republic native stormed back from a 2-5 deficit during a long first set to overcome Kirilenko 7-6 (11-9), 7-5, adding the New Haven crown to her Aug. 13 Rogers Cup win in Montreal. The victory was the ninth overall in the career of 22-year-old Kvitova, who fired seven aces Saturday en route to the winner's circle. Seventh-seeded Kirilenko reached her first U.S. tour final by defeating four-time defending champion Caroline Wozniacki, who was forced to retire with a knee injury in Friday's semifinal.
