Dubai’s cricket fraternity remembered the late umpire Farid Malek on the eve of his second death anniversary earlier this week. Freddy Sidhwa, captain of the Seven Seas Strikers team, in collaboration with the Dubai Cricket Council has decided to stage a one-day tournament on July 6 in memory of Malek who passed away on July 1, 2010 due to a sudden heart attack. “Malek served the game for three decades and his dedicated service needs to be appreciated. This memorial cup will be staged to honour the contribution of Malek to promote the game in the region,” Sidhwa said. Senior umpire Tariq Butt and a colleague of Malek said: “The tournament will be held regularly and no participation fee will be collected from the teams.”Friends and well wishers of Malek such as I.P.
