London - UPI

Rory McIlroy remains No. 1 in the men's world golf rankings after the first week of the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup playoffs. Nick Watney won The Barclays Sunday by three strokes and moves up 16 spots to No. 19 in the rankings. But the Top 10 golfers didn't make a sterling showing as the PGA playoffs started. Only three of the Top 10 in the rankings finished in the first tier at The Barclays and two of those -- world No. 2 Luke Donald and sixth-ranked Bubba Watson -- tied for 10th. The other was fourth-ranked Lee Westwood, who finished tied for fifth. The player who made the biggest move up wasn't in The Barclays, Jason Dufner opted to skip the tournament. Interestingly he goes from ninth to No. 7 in this week's rankings. Watson goes up one spot while Adam Scott slips three spots to No. 9. He was 62nd at The Barclays. McIlroy has a rankings points average of 10.140 while McDonald is at 9.402 and Tigers Woods comes in at 8.613 for third. Westwood's average is 7.257 and Webb Simpson, who missed the cut last week, is fifth with 6.121. Watson has an average of 6.086 while Dufner is 6.046 and Justin Rose averages 6.011 for the eighth spot. Scott has an average of 5.955 and Steve Stricker rounds out the Top 10 at 5.635. Paul Lawrie claimed the European Tour's Johnnie Walker Championship in Scotland and moves up four places to no. 30 in the world rankings.
