Knuckleballer R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets and Tampa Bay Rays ace David Price Wednesday won baseball's Cy Young Awards, honoring the best pitchers. Dickey was named the National League winner by the Baseball Writers Association of America after a storybook 2012 season in which he went 20-6 and led the league in strikeouts (230), shutouts (3), complete games (5), innings pitched (233.2) and games started (33). The one-time journeyman's season was highlighted by back-to-back one-hitters in June. The 38-year-old was a runaway winner, named first on 27-of-32 ballots cast. Price, meanwhile, emerged the winner in a close battle with Detroit's Justin Verlander for the AL honors in the tightest voting since 1969. The left-hander was named first on 14 ballots and second on 13 others, edging Verlader by only four points. Price, a 27-year-old three-time all-star, compiled a 20-5 record with 205 strikeouts and a league-best 2.56 ERA last season while holding opposing hitters to an AL-low .318 slugging percentage.
